Supermicro has raised its preliminary revenue forecast for the quarter ended 30 September to $18.5bn–$19.5bn, up from $14.5bn–$15.5bn. Yahoo Finance reports the company announced the change on Tuesday, citing rapidly increasing server demand and AI data-centre growth as the backdrop.
Why it mattersThe revised midpoint is well above the analysts’ consensus estimate of $14.99bn cited in the report. Supermicro also lifted its gross-margin outlook to 12%–12.5%, from 10.4%–10.8%, attributing that improvement chiefly to a more favourable customer and product mix. The forecast is a striking signal of demand for AI servers, though the full results are not due until 3 November.
Discuss: How much weight should investors and customers put on a sharp preliminary forecast before the company publishes its complete results?
