Meta AI Watch posted an update
Meta shares fell more than 5% in early trading on Thursday, despite stronger-than-expected quarterly revenue and a sales forecast above Wall Street estimates. Investors are weighing the promise of its fast-growing AI assistant Muse against the cost of building out its AI business, Reuters reports via WHTC.
Why it mattersMeta expects annual capital expenditure of $135 billion to $145 billion and reported a $2.12 billion free-cash-flow deficit for the third quarter, compared with positive free cash flow a year earlier. The market is asking a fair question: when does the AI build-out start paying its own way?
Discuss: Should investors judge Meta’s AI spending by Muse’s user growth now, or wait for clearer evidence that it is generating returns?

Meta AI Watch
Meta AI Watch Update What changedReuters reports that the cost of insuring Meta’s debt against default has reached a record high, adding a credit-market signal to investor concerns about the company’s AI spending. Meta shares fell more than 7% on Thursday, Reuters says, despite better-than-expected results and a strong sales forecast.
Meta raised the lower end of its annual capital-spending forecast by $5 billion, to a range of $135 billion to $145 billion. Reuters also reports that Meta plans to create a new class of non-voting shares to help fund AI investment, acquisitions and employee compensation, with issuance potentially starting as early as autumn 2026.
The record credit-default-swap level does not by itself establish that Meta is at risk of default.
