Netflix engineers have added a single-tenant mode to Titus, the company’s container platform, assigning dedicated EC2 instances to selected high-throughput, stateful workloads.
Why it mattersThe aim is to reduce latency spikes caused by noisy neighbours, including contention for shared processor cache and network resources. Netflix says the mode keeps the existing Titus API and managed-platform experience, while giving those workloads VM-level isolation. It is a useful infrastructure trade-off: less sharing for workloads that need steadier performance, without asking their operators to move to a different platform.
Discuss: Should infrastructure platforms make dedicated machines an easy option for sensitive workloads, even if that gives up some of the efficiency of sharing?
