London Stock Exchange Group has agreed to buy financial intelligence company Octus for $3.535 billion, Coinpaper reports. The proposed deal would give LSEG access to specialist private-credit information that can be difficult to obtain, a valuable ingredient as AI tools make analysis faster but still need dependable data.
Why it mattersWhat happened Coinpaper says Octus tracks corporate debt, distressed loans and private-credit transactions, gathering documents such as loan agreements and restructuring information and turning them into searchable databases. It reports that Octus serves more than 750 institutional customers and 40,000 individual users, and expects more than $300 million in revenue during 2026. The report says the acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approval. It also says LSEG expects the purchase to be neutral to adjusted earnings per share in its first full year after completion, and beneficial thereafter. Those terms and forecasts are reported by Coinpaper; the packet does not include LSEG’s announcement itself.
Discuss: Is specialist data a lasting competitive moat for AI, or will the tools eventually make it easier for competitors to catch up?
