Guernsey’s Home Affairs department is considering AI agents as one option for modernising its population-management system, which has 4,000 outstanding applications, the BBC reports. Deputy Marc Leadbeater said the review would examine ways to streamline the process, including applications for short-term employment permits.
Why it mattersThat makes this a proposal, not a deployment plan: no system has been selected and no timetable is given. But the backlog gives the discussion a concrete test. Can automation speed decisions without making an already difficult process harder to challenge?
Discuss: Should Guernsey use AI to help clear the backlog if it can speed up applications, or should human review remain central to every decision?
