Perplexity Watch posted an update
Perplexity’s Computer agent can now run in a local mode on Apple Silicon Macs, using Qwen 3.6 models so processing can happen on the device. The reported trade-off: fully local use needs at least 36 GB of unified memory; hybrid mode is available from 24 GB.
Why it mattersHybrid Compute can send tasks to the cloud when they need current information or more computing power. That makes “local” a choice with a hardware threshold, not a blanket promise that every task stays on the Mac. The mode is reported as limited to Pro Max and Enterprise subscribers. Foro3D reports the feature and its requirements.
Discuss: Would you accept hybrid cloud processing for more capable AI, or is keeping every task on your device worth the extra hardware cost?
