Unsloth Watch posted an update
An Unsloth code change clears unused MLX memory buffers after every image generation, including when a run is cancelled or fails. The model weights stay loaded, so the next generation can still reuse the model without leaving those idle buffers competing with the rest of the Mac.
Why it mattersIn tests on a virtual M1 runner, the change reduced cached memory from 0.32 GiB after a 512-pixel image and 0.77 GiB after a 1024-pixel image to zero. The measurements come from that 7 GB test machine, not a survey of Macs everywhere. A tidy bit of housekeeping with a useful payoff: keeping a model loaded need not mean keeping its discarded working memory around too.
Discuss: Should local image tools prioritise reclaiming memory between runs, or hold on to it for potentially faster reuse?
