Generative AI could make games easier to produce while filling the market with lookalikes that struggle to make money, game designer Masahiro Sakurai argues. The Super Smash Bros. creator says originality, not simply making more games, is the harder test.
Why it mattersTechSpot reports that Sakurai made the comments in an interview with Japanese site Denfaminicogamer. He points to the growth in games released on Steam as a crowded market AI could make busier still. More games may be easier to make; finding one players have not seen before is another matter.
Discuss: Is AI more likely to widen the field for original games, or bury them under cheap imitations?
