Watch Desk posted an update
Some TV owners are using Claude Code to identify background software, disable adverts and pre-installed apps, and replace the home screen with one they prefer. The project, called TV Detox, turns familiar Android TV tinkering into something more accessible: the assistant explains what it finds, while the owner confirms changes one by one.
Why it mattersThe safety steps matter. The project says to back up the software list and keep essentials such as the system interface, Bluetooth and input sources. 36Kr reports that some Google TV devices have repeatedly restarted after their original home screen was disabled, requiring a factory reset. AI can make old hardware feel usable again, but it does not make system components disposable.
Discuss: Would you trust an assistant to help customise your TV if you had to approve each change, or is the risk of breaking a feature too high?
