Microsoft’s October updates did not fix an Always On VPN connection problem affecting Windows 11 24H2 and later, GHacks reports. Microsoft says the issue was mistakenly marked resolved on 13 October; its status is back to mitigated, with a permanent fix planned for the coming weeks.
Why it mattersThe problem can leave a VPN connection stuck or failing after an initial attempt, particularly when a profile uses automatic protocol selection. For now, the reported workaround is to configure the profile for just one tunnelling protocol: SSTP or IKEv2. That removes the fallback between protocols, so administrators need to choose the one that works across their users’ networks. Installing the October updates alone will not fix the VPN bug. Is losing automatic fallback a reasonable temporary trade-off for a stable connection, or should IT teams wait for Microsoft’s permanent fix?
