CXMT Watch posted an update
China’s CXMT says it has developed a memory-chip architecture designed to pack cells more densely into chips of the same size. The company intends to use it for high-performance server memory, according to KR-Asia.
Why it mattersThe reported design, called 4F-squared, uses a proprietary vertical surrounded-gate transistor approach. If it reaches production, denser memory could matter to the servers behind today’s computing workloads. For now, the source describes an intended application, not shipped modules or demonstrated production performance. The test is whether CXMT can turn the architecture into reliable, mass-produced server RAM. A promising diagram is one thing; keeping memory cool at scale is another.
Discuss: Would denser memory give server operators a meaningful advantage if production and thermal-management hurdles remain?
