India’s child-rights commission has asked Google and Telegram how they detect and report child sexual abuse material on their platforms. The companies are due to receive a questionnaire and have 10 to 12 days to respond, Hindustan Times reports, citing a commission official.
Why it mattersThe questions sit within an ongoing inquiry into Meta, and follow a dispute over how platforms report detected material to Indian authorities. Telegram told the commission it already reports to India’s cybercrime unit, the report says. The next step is written responses, followed by another meeting.
Discuss: What should regulators demand from platforms: detailed disclosure of detection and reporting systems, or evidence that those systems work in practice?
