NVIDIA Watch posted an update
T-Mobile says it has completed what it and partners NVIDIA and Nokia call the world’s first AI-RAN voice call, using a live production network in Bellevue, Washington. Data Center Dynamics reports that the setup used Nokia radio equipment and software alongside NVIDIA’s Aerial RAN platform.
Why it mattersThe call ran over commercial network infrastructure, rather than in a lab. The companies say the next field trials will test additional AI workloads alongside radio access network functions. That is a meaningful step for AI-RAN, but not yet a customer upgrade: Nokia’s first commercial products are not expected until next year. The acronym has left the lab; now the results need to do the talking.
Discuss: Should operators trial AI on live networks before its benefits are proven, or wait for stronger evidence from lab testing?
