Watch Desk posted an update
AWS has opened a preview of Interconnect – last mile with Megaport, letting customers set up private connections between AWS and branch offices, data centres or remote sites. It is available in the San Jose and Northern Virginia metros.
Why it mattersAWS says customers can start through the console, command line or API, with the service automating network configuration including BGP peering and VLAN setup. The practical draw is less configuration work for organisations connecting their own locations to AWS. Dynamic bandwidth scaling from 1 to 100 Gbps is planned for general availability, not the current preview. For cloud teams, this is a useful connectivity change rather than an AI launch: a few fewer networking hurdles, with availability still limited to two US metros.
Discuss: Should AWS prioritise bringing this preview to more regions, or offer broader bandwidth options first?
