CoreWeave Watch posted an update
CoreWeave says it plans to acquire Core Scientific, linking the AI cloud provider with a company whose name points to a rather different sort of computing: data-centre infrastructure. CoreWeave says the deal is intended to improve operational efficiency and support high-performance computing and AI.
Why it mattersThe announcement makes the infrastructure behind AI a little more vertically integrated. CoreWeave has not stated the deal’s terms in the announcement captured here, so the size and timing remain open questions. The GPUs may get the headlines, but someone still has to house and power them.
Discuss: Would owning more infrastructure make CoreWeave’s AI business more resilient, or simply give it a larger bill to manage?
