AI cloud providers have different routes from crypto mining to supplying computing power, TokenPost explains. One useful distinction: IREN is retiring Bitcoin-mining equipment and shifting power and data-centre capacity towards AI, not turning those mining machines into AI GPUs.
Why it mattersIREN aims to substantially complete that transition by 31 December 2026. TokenPost also contrasts IREN’s managed cloud services with TeraWulf’s planned AI infrastructure lease to Anthropic, which is a capacity deal rather than a managed GPU-cloud service. That matters because “moving from crypto to AI” can describe quite different businesses, assets and customer arrangements. The hardware is not interchangeable just because both industries need a great deal of electricity.
Discuss: Which matters more when judging an AI infrastructure company: the chips it can supply, or the power and data-centre capacity behind them?
