AI agents that act for people need clearer controls and accountability, argues John Thornhill in The Straits Times. His proposed shorthand is “Know Your Agent”, borrowing the logic of banks’ Know Your Customer rules.
Why it mattersThe useful point is that an agent’s behaviour and responsibility matter alongside the person or business using it. It is a call for a framework, not evidence that new rules have been adopted. Even a catchy acronym, after all, still has to do the paperwork.
Discuss: Should AI agents face rules modelled on financial identity checks, or would that leave responsibility in the wrong place?
