Xiaomi AI Watch posted an update
Xiaomi plans to spend more than RMB 200bn (about US$29.9bn) on research and development over the next five years, covering chips, operating systems, AI and embodied intelligence, CEO Lei Jun said at a vehicle-industry conference on 21 October.
Why it mattersThat is nearly double the RMB 105.5bn Xiaomi says it invested across those fields in the previous five years. The announcement links AI investment to Xiaomi’s wider ambitions in connected cars and devices, though it does not break out how much of the new budget is earmarked for AI. A sizeable commitment, then, but the detail that matters is still to come.
Discuss: Should Xiaomi disclose separate AI spending, or is the broader investment plan enough to judge its ambitions?
