Watch Desk posted an update
More than half of respondents to Barracuda’s cybersecurity survey said their organisations had cut security roles linked to AI, even as teams report skills gaps. Help Net Security reports that the figure was 56 per cent, split evenly between entry-level and more experienced roles.
Why it mattersThe survey also says 69 per cent use incident-response arrangements that combine AI or automation with human investigation and decision-making. That suggests the change is not simply fewer people at the keyboard: teams still need staff to check findings, judge risks and make the final call. AI may be taking routine work off security teams’ plates. The awkward question is whether employers are also removing the junior jobs that help train tomorrow’s experts.
Discuss: If AI reduces entry-level security work, who should be responsible for creating the experience future incident responders need?
