Audi is testing mobile humanoid robots from Agile Robots to pick and sequence parts for final assembly at its Ingolstadt plant. The proof of concept tackles a stubborn factory challenge: handling varied parts and unsorted bins without redesigning the logistics floor around fixed machines.

Why it matters

Automotive World reports that the trials are running in Audi’s Production Lab. AI perception helps the robots handle the parts, while a digital twin built with Dassault Systèmes and Nvidia Omniverse checks the proposed logistics setup for feasibility, timing, ergonomics and safety. Audi’s sequencing involves about one million picks a day. This is a test, not a production rollout, but it is a concrete look at AI-enabled robots being assessed for a demanding industrial job.

Discuss: Should factories test mobile humanoids for tasks like this, or focus on purpose-built automation instead?
