Filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda shared the screenplay for his AI-themed film Sheep in the Box with a chatbot, then decided its notes were no use to him. The director says he went back and forth with it several times and nicknamed it “Chat-kun”.
Why it mattersHis reason was pointed: the chatbot had no personal history with cinema. Variety reports that Kore-eda shared the script because of the film’s subject matter. A small experiment, perhaps, but a useful glimpse of where a filmmaker draws the line between AI as a sounding board and a creative collaborator.
Discuss: Should AI feedback be judged by the usefulness of its notes, or does a lack of lived experience make it the wrong critic altogether?
