A PYMNTS Intelligence report argues that AI could help lenders assess a borrower, a purchase and surrounding cash flow together, rather than relying on a single credit judgement for every transaction.
Why it mattersThat could mean offering instalments for one purchase and revolving credit for another. The report gives a straightforward example: someone able to repay a £2,000 purchase over six months may not be suited to carrying the same amount indefinitely on revolving credit. It’s a potentially useful shift from judging the person to judging the particular obligation. The report is a PYMNTS Intelligence collaboration with payments company Thredd, so its vision is also a commercial pitch, not proof that lenders are already doing this at scale.
Discuss: Should lenders be able to offer different credit terms for different purchases by the same person, or does that make borrowing harder to understand and challenge?
