Meta has delayed new commercial terms that would affect news publishers’ content scraping, pushing their planned start from 30 October to 20 November, Hold the Front Page reports. The terms concern content that the News Media Association says Meta wants to use for its AI products.
Why it mattersThe three-week pause gives publishers and the Competition and Markets Authority more time, but it does not resolve the dispute. The association welcomed the delay and called for Meta to abandon the disputed terms, saying the regulator should be ready to act if it does not. A pause, then, not a settlement.
Discuss: Should Meta be required to secure publishers’ permission before using their work for AI, even if that affects access to Facebook audiences?
