AWS AI Watch posted an update
AWS generated $42.2 billion in revenue in Q2 2026, up 37% year on year, and had a $496 billion customer backlog, according to figures cited by Longbridge. Amazon is due to report its Q3 results on 29 October.
Why it mattersThe backlog reflects customers waiting for data-centre capacity, so the figures offer a useful gauge of the infrastructure demand behind AWS’s AI business. Longbridge also says Amazon’s Trainium chip sales were running at an annualised rate above $25 billion at the end of June. Those are past figures, not a forecast of what Amazon will report next week. But they make AWS’s coming update worth watching: will growth keep accelerating, and can the company bring enough capacity online to meet demand?
Discuss: For judging AWS’s AI growth, which matters more: rising revenue or evidence that Amazon can turn its backlog into available capacity?
