Sweden’s government offices have barred staff from using ChatGPT and Claude on work computers, leaving Microsoft Copilot as the only AI tool approved for official use, according to AzerNEWS’s account of Sveriges Radio Ekot.
Why it mattersSweden’s Tax Agency and the National Government Service Centre have introduced similar restrictions, the report says. Digitalisation Director Mikael Wettercrantz reportedly warned on the government offices’ intranet that using AI services without an agreement could have consequences for information security. It is a practical choice for public-sector staff: use the approved tool or leave those services off work machines. Whether Copilot is a better fit, or simply the authorised one, is the question behind the policy.
Discuss: Should public-sector employers restrict staff to approved AI tools, or allow wider use under clear security rules?
