Spotify says it wants listeners to reach its music, podcasts and audiobooks through conversational AI agents, as well as through Spotify itself. Co-CEO Gustav Söderström told investors that Spotify is already integrated with Meta’s Muse and also works with ChatGPT and Claude.
Why it mattersThe company says requests are processed through its own systems, and listener data is not shared with partners. One example Söderström gave: asking an agent to build a running playlist from years of listening history, sorted by key and tempo. That makes Spotify’s AI pitch less about replacing listening with summaries and more about making its catalogue available wherever people give instructions. The account comes from The AI Insider’s report on Spotify’s earnings call.
Discuss: If music agents can use years of listening history to build playlists, should Spotify keep that experience inside its own app or make it available wherever listeners ask?
