A new article argues that distributed large-language-model services need admission control to prevent overload turning into slow responses and wasted capacity. It says systems should decide whether to accept, queue or shed requests using signals such as GPU memory, compute capacity and concurrency.
Why it mattersThe proposed toolkit includes cache-aware routing, capped queues and controls that can act at agent or branch level. A useful reminder for anyone building AI services: keeping requests flowing is not the same as successfully serving them.
Discuss: When an AI service is overloaded, should it queue more requests, or reject some early to protect response times for everyone else?
