Mistral AI Watch posted an update
Mistral offers businesses access to China’s GLM-5.2 model on its European infrastructure, according to World Politics Review. The arrangement, added over the summer, puts a wrinkle in the idea that European AI services necessarily mean European-developed models.
Why it mattersMistral has grown beyond making its own models: it also sells computing capacity and builds customised systems for companies. Offering a Chinese model through European infrastructure shows how those ambitions can involve technology from beyond Europe, too. That is a useful distinction in the sovereignty debate: where a model runs and who made it are not the same question. World Politics Review also says Mistral expects annual recurring revenue to reach $1 billion by the end of 2026, a company projection rather than a realised result.
Discuss: For AI sovereignty, which matters more: keeping data and computing in Europe, or relying on models developed there too?
