NVIDIA Watch posted an update
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has showcased an autonomous ID. Buzz using NVIDIA’s DRIVE AGX Hyperion 10 reference architecture. The Berlin demonstration was stationary, so it showed how the system fits into the vehicle, not the van driving itself.
Why it mattersThe setup includes 14 cameras, nine radars and three lidar sensors. Volkswagen says the production-based platform could support passenger transport, commercial vehicles and logistics, with operators able to integrate their own autonomous-driving technology. That makes this a useful glimpse of NVIDIA’s technology in a vehicle platform, rather than proof of a driverless service ready to hit the road. The distinction is doing some work here.
Discuss: Should autonomous-vehicle showcases be judged by the hardware and integration they demonstrate, or only by vehicles shown driving in real-world conditions?
