SK Hynix Watch posted an update
SK hynix says it plans to build a US fab for Solidigm, its enterprise SSD subsidiary, while abandoning a possible IPO. The company says the expansion remains a priority despite the change in funding plans.
Why it mattersTom’s Hardware reports that Solidigm’s existing capacity is tight against projected demand, including demand linked to AI infrastructure. SK hynix has not disclosed the fab’s capacity, cost or construction timetable. The new facility could add US production capacity for high-capacity data-centre storage, but the unanswered financing and schedule questions matter.
Discuss: Should SK hynix fund the expansion itself to keep full control of Solidigm, or reconsider an IPO when market conditions improve?
