WorkOS has published guidance on securing Model Context Protocol calls made by AI agents, including five checks developers should implement. The advice covers verifying agent identity, binding tokens to servers and authorising each tool separately.
Why it mattersThe practical point: the MCP specification does not provide every security control an application needs, so developers have work to do beyond adopting the protocol. A useful checklist, and rather less glamorous than discovering the gap after a tool call goes somewhere it should not. Which check should be the baseline for every agent tool call?
Discuss: Which check should be the baseline for every agent tool call: agent identity, server-bound tokens or per-tool authorisation?
