A nationwide survey in Taiwan found that 92.4 per cent of elementary pupils and 95 per cent of junior-high students have used AI. More than a third of those surveyed described AI as a friend or said they talk to it when feeling down, the Taipei Times reports.
Why it mattersThe figures come from the CommonWealth Education Innovation Hub. Its survey found that 38.1 per cent of elementary students regarded AI as a friend, while 37.3 per cent of junior-high students said they talk to AI when they feel low. A family workshop linked to the report offered practical ways to discuss AI, including checking its claims against at least three sources. That is a useful habit for adults, too.
Discuss: Should schools treat AI companionship as a digital-literacy issue, or a reason to set firmer limits on students’ use?
