Pete Steinberger, creator of OpenClaw and now working at OpenAI, says he spent $10 million on AI tokens there last month. He made the remark during a conversation with Cloudflare CEO Dane Knecht, according to Computerworld’s account of the event.
Why it mattersSteinberger also questioned why some AI work still runs on his computer rather than in the cloud, while noting that cloud costs and privacy complicate that shift. A reminder that impressive AI budgets can buy a lot of activity, but not necessarily useful work.
Discuss: Should AI companies publish clearer figures on token use and what it achieves, or would that reveal too much about how they operate?
