Google has changed its privacy policy to allow data from Drive, Gmail and Google Photos to be used by other Google services that support personalised ads, The Verge reports. The change, dated 16 October, may affect people who connect those services to AI Mode and other Search tools.
Why it mattersThat is a meaningful shift in the wording, though the report does not establish exactly how Google will use the data or which users will see ads shaped by it. Connecting your apps to make search more personal may now come with an advertising trade-off. Convenient, perhaps; invisible, it should not be.
Discuss: If you connect personal apps to make AI search more useful, should that count as permission for the data to shape ads too?
