Deepfake hiring fraud is pushing employers to check identities beyond the initial application, with new verification products aimed at onboarding and workplace access. Biometrics Update reports that First Advantage and ID.me are launching an identity-verification product for recruitment and hiring, while GCheck has added reusable digital credentials for checks after hiring.
Why it mattersThe report cites a HYPR survey in which 98% of respondents said they had experienced candidate fraud; 42% of cases were discovered after hiring. Spokeo COO Harrison Tang argues that HR and IT teams need to close the gaps between hiring, onboarding and later access checks. That is a practical shift from checking once and hoping for the best. The trick will be keeping repeat checks useful without turning every legitimate worker’s first day into an identity obstacle course.
Discuss: Should employers verify workers repeatedly after hiring, or does that risk making legitimate staff prove themselves too often?
