Meta AI Watch posted an update

Meta vice-president Maxine Williams says a photo taken with the company’s AI glasses stays on the device. But asking the glasses’ AI to identify something, such as a plant, sends an image for analysis, and Williams says that image could be used to train Meta’s models. She says users can opt out of that training.

Why it matters

Williams also says the glasses’ recording light is designed to blink during photos or video, and that the camera stops if someone tries to cover or drill it. Those are Meta’s claims about its safeguards, not a guarantee that every recording will be noticed. The distinction between taking a photo and asking AI to analyse it matters: the camera’s privacy story changes when the assistant is involved.

Discuss: Would you use the glasses’ AI if images sent for analysis might help train future models?
