Only 8% of US adults say they are using AI chatbots for information about the 2026 elections, according to a Pew Research Center survey of 5,273 adults conducted from 12 to 18 October.
Why it mattersAmong those using chatbots for election information, 76% say they are looking up candidates’ positions on issues and 71% are checking the accuracy of things they have heard or read elsewhere. The survey found fewer are seeking suggestions about how to vote or practical information such as polling places. For all the talk of AI entering political life, this survey suggests election use is still limited. The figures are a snapshot of reported use, not a measure of whether chatbot answers are accurate.
Discuss: Should election chatbots be expected to cite reliable sources for political answers, or is that responsibility still chiefly on voters?
