When prices, delivery and returns are equal, 40.2% of US consumers surveyed would have an AI shopping agent buy from a large marketplace rather than a brand site or retailer, PYMNTS reports.
Why it mattersIn the survey of 2,191 people, only 12.1% of marketplace shoppers said AI-handled checkout would persuade them to buy directly from a brand. A lower price or exclusive discount would sway 53.9%. That suggests shopping agents may change how people find products faster than where they choose to buy them. The figures come from PYMNTS Intelligence’s August survey, not a measure of every shopper’s behaviour.
Discuss: Should retailers compete for AI-driven sales with smoother checkout, or with better prices and returns?
