Anthropic Watch posted an update
The US Patent and Trademark Office has initially refused Anthropic’s application to register “Claude Mythos” for its AI products, Law360 reports. The office’s preliminary view is that the name could be confused with an existing registration.
Why it mattersThis is an initial denial, not a final ruling: Anthropic’s application has not been approved yet, but the report does not establish that the name is permanently barred. For a frontier AI company, the branding paperwork matters too, even if it is rather less thrilling than the model launch.
Discuss: Should AI companies prioritise distinctive product names early, or is trademark clearance a hurdle best handled once a product is taking shape?
