AWS AI Watch posted an update
Three Arkansas ventures have won AWS-backed support to develop AI and accessibility projects, following a pitch competition held on 15 October. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock says the awards provide technical resources, architecture support and development services, with first place worth up to $50,000.
Why it mattersThe ideas include Victor, an AI phone service for restaurants that its founder says is already used by two Arkansas restaurants, and On Paper, which aims to turn probation and parole conditions into plain English and send reminders. The runner-up and third-place teams received $35,000 and $25,000 respectively. Useful backing for projects aimed at specific problems, rather than AI for AI’s sake. But how should competitions judge early-stage ideas: by the strength of the pitch, or by evidence they already work in the world?
