DeepSeek and MiniMax have won state approval to use their AI models globally, according to a social media account affiliated with China’s state broadcaster CCTV, the Economic Times reports.
Why it mattersThe report does not spell out what the approval permits or whether it changes either company’s existing ability to serve users abroad. Both companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the newspaper says. The claim matters as China has proposed export controls covering 23 AI technologies, including models and agents. For now, the approval’s practical scope is the part still missing from the picture.
Discuss: Should China publish the terms of approvals like this, or is a state-media announcement enough for overseas users and developers to judge what changes?
