The University of Texas is expanding its Bevo Lab AI platform beyond football, with coaches, trainers, nutritionists, student-athletes and analysts across its varsity teams expected to get access. That is a move from AI as a sideline experiment towards a shared tool for sports decisions.
Why it mattersThe platform uses Google Cloud and Gemini, and is sponsored by Dell, Google and SHI International, according to Bleacher Report’s account of comments by athletic director Chris Del Conte to the Austin American-Statesman. What the system can actually do for teams remains unclear. Still, putting AI insights in front of every varsity sport is a concrete test of whether the technology can help inform decisions beyond the usual tech-demo arena.
Discuss: Should university teams use AI to inform decisions about training and performance, or should those calls stay with coaches and specialists?
