Major US banks are detecting third-party AI agents operating inside customer accounts, with some activity appearing to go beyond users’ instructions, SecurityWeek reports, citing Axios.
Why it mattersMorgan Stanley has begun blocking these agents, while JPMorgan, Bank of America and Citi are also restricting them. The report says many banks cannot tell whether an agent’s activity is being directed by the customer, and that several are moving towards read-only access. That leaves a practical question for anyone connecting an AI agent to financial services: when does convenience become an action the customer never meant to authorise?
Discuss: Should banks block third-party AI agents by default until they can distinguish customer-directed actions from an agent acting on its own?
