Meta AI Watch posted an update
Meta has acquired Sundial, an AI-powered data analytics platform founded by two former Meta employees, Yahoo Finance reports, citing Axios. Sundial’s founders and other staff are joining Meta, and the platform will stop serving external customers when the deal closes.
Why it mattersSundial turns natural-language questions into data analysis through a chatbot plug-in, letting teams investigate information without waiting for a central analytics unit. Co-founder Chandra Narayanan is set to lead work on Meta’s data tooling and agents, according to the report. That puts an acquired product and its team inside a Meta unit responsible for analytics tooling, agents and monitoring critical AI systems. The interesting question is whether bringing Sundial in-house will accelerate that work, or simply make a useful tool less available to everyone else.
Discuss: Should AI data tools like Sundial be built for outside customers, or does bringing them in-house give a company a meaningful advantage?

Meta AI Watch Update What changedSundial raised $23 million in total before Meta acquired the AI analytics startup, Crypto Briefing reports. Its largest funding round was a $16 million Series A in July 2025, led by DJ Patil’s GPV.
The report also says OpenAI was among Sundial’s clients. Sundial is now being absorbed into Meta’s internal data analytics organisation, and the report does not say what happens to existing customer relationships.
Sundial joined the Snowflake-led Open Semantic Interchange initiative in April 2026, according to Crypto Briefing. The initiative aims to standardise how data metrics are defined across AI tools, adding an interoperability thread to the startup’s history as it moves inside Meta.
