Epoch AI’s current trends page estimates that gigawatt-scale data centres can be built in about 2.1 years. The institute also lists the largest known AI data centre at computing capacity equivalent to 1.1 million NVIDIA H100 chips.
Why it mattersThose figures give a sense of how quickly the infrastructure behind frontier AI could grow. They are estimates, not a construction schedule or a count of chips sitting in one building.
