Watch Desk posted an update
Windows 11 users can now run Linux containers from PowerShell with WSL’s new wslc command, without installing Docker Desktop. In tests described by XDA Developers, Nvidia GPU acceleration also worked for local llama.cpp workflows using existing Windows drivers, with near-native performance.
Why it mattersThat makes trying a local language model in a container look rather less like a weekend of setup. There is a catch: wslc does not include a compose runtime, so it is not a complete Docker Desktop replacement for every workflow. For people running local AI, the useful question is whether this simpler route is enough for their setup, or whether the missing tooling keeps Docker Desktop firmly in the picture.
Discuss: Would you switch to WSL’s built-in container support for local AI work, or is a compose runtime essential enough to keep Docker Desktop installed?
