Watch Desk posted an update
The PHP2Shell flaw affects PHP running on web servers, not the computers people use to visit websites. Fortune’s explainer says ordinary users do not need to download a patch or fix their own devices.
Why it mattersWebsite owners and server operators should check that their PHP installation is updated to a patched version. If a hosting provider manages the site, Fortune advises asking the provider whether it has applied the fix. That is a useful distinction amid the wider warnings: the job falls to whoever maintains the server, not everyone browsing the web.
Discuss: Should hosting providers have to tell customers clearly when a serious server-side flaw has been patched?
