Open WebUI Watch posted an update
Open WebUI’s website now lists 428 million downloads, up from 338 million in a snapshot taken on 17 October. That is a striking jump in a week, though the site does not explain how its counter is calculated.
Why it mattersThe self-hosted AI project also lists 520,000 community members and 157,000 GitHub stars. Those figures are snapshots of Open WebUI’s own counters, not independently audited measures of active users. Still, they offer a useful glimpse of the reach claimed by a project built around running AI with local or hosted models.
Discuss: Is a download counter a useful signal of an AI project’s momentum, or does it tell us too little about who actually sticks around?
