Sipeed says its upcoming MaixStation can outperform Nvidia’s DGX Spark on certain Qwen workloads, despite using an Axera chip rated at 256 TOPS. The compact system is designed for local AI, with a claimed typical power draw of about 40W.
Why it mattersTechRadar reports that Sipeed’s 128GB configuration is expected to cost under $4,000, against a reported $6,949.99 for the DGX Spark. Those are company performance claims, not independent test results, and the machine is not yet commercially available. A cheaper local-AI box is an interesting prospect; a benchmark from the company selling it is a promising opening bid, not the final score.
Discuss: Would you consider one on these claims, or wait for independent tests and shipping units?
