Gigabyte has introduced a workstation motherboard that can support up to nine graphics cards and 2TB of memory, according to eTeknix. It is designed for AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO processors and aimed at demanding local AI workloads.
Why it mattersThe board has seven PCIe 5.0 slots, with six running at x16 and one at x8. Reaching nine GPUs requires additional MCIO connectors and external connections, so this is a high-end build, not a casual upgrade. That much GPU capacity could suit teams assembling local AI training systems. The practical question is whether the cost and complexity make more sense than renting compute, and eTeknix’s report does not give a price.
Discuss: For serious local AI work, would you build around a multi-GPU workstation like this, or rent compute and avoid the hardware and setup burden?
